Purcellville Master Bathroom Remodel
bathroom · Purcellville, VA · 2023
The Brief
The original master bath was a late-nineties builder special — fiberglass tub surround, single vanity, and a step-in shower that felt too small for two. The homeowners had been putting off the project for years. They came to McKenzie ready to do it right.
The goal: a room that felt like a hotel bathroom — spacious, calm, and worth lingering in.
Design and Planning
We worked with the homeowners over three meetings to finalize the layout before any walls moved. The key decision was relocating the vanity to the east wall, which freed up the north wall — with its frosted window — for the freestanding tub.
The original subfloor required sistering to carry the additional weight of the cast iron tub and the tile floor. That structural work was completed before any finish materials arrived on site.
What We Built
The freestanding soaking tub sits under the frosted north window, catching natural light throughout the day. Behind it, a frameless glass shower runs the full length of the west wall — large-format 24×48 porcelain tile, a linear drain, and a built-in niche for storage.
The custom double vanity was fabricated locally: white oak drawer faces, a honed Calacatta marble top, and matte black fixtures throughout. An LED backlit mirror spans the full vanity width, offering even light for getting ready.
Beneath it all, electric radiant heat was installed under the entire tile floor — a detail that makes the room genuinely comfortable year-round.
The Outcome
A master bath that earns its name. The homeowners have told us they feel like they’re on vacation every morning — which is exactly the right outcome.
